I’ve heard a number of club members mention the RR10 – what is it?

The Road Runner 10 (RR10) series of off-road races are often run on tracks in the New Forest, or on footpaths around local country parks. The RR10 series is a great way to race, or test your fitness against competitors from other local running clubs, as well as being a fantastic way of exploring local country parks if you are new to the area.

The RR10 league is a combination of an individual competition and team competition. For the individual competition, a runner’s best 6 placed finishes are used in the scoring. There is also a team competition, where by the first 5 men, or 3 ladies, form the Romsey ‘A’ team, then the next 5, or 3, make up the ‘B’ team and so on… The team award is based on 9 of the 10 races – excluding the one we host.

The races are free to enter, with only 2 conditions, firstly that you run wearing a club vest (it can be worn on top of other layers, if it is cold!), and secondly, you come and marshall in the race jointly hosted by Romsey and Wessex Running club at Janesmoor pond. Parking is normally congested at the venues, so please make every effort to car share where possible. Link To RR10 Page

I’ve heard a number of club members mention the CC6 – what is it?

This friendly league, organised by the running clubs of south Hampshire for their members, provides an excellent introduction to competitive racing.  Held in the winter, these local races are free to enter and take place once a month on Sunday mornings, between November and March. Distances are between 4 and 5 miles and have similar locations to those in the RR10. Men who have run faster than 6 minute per mile pace in the previous year are unable to enter. For ladies, the threshold is 6 minutes 30 seconds per mile. Link To CC6 Page

What is the Pentathlon competition?

The pentathlon competition year runs from 1st October to 30th September. Scoring for this is based on a points system for men’s and women’s performances in 5 races that are officially recognised and permitted; 5km, 5 miles, 10km, 10 miles, half marathon within the UK . The 5k club handicap time trial race is included. Members are allocated points for their best time within RRR over each distance (40 points for fastest, then 37, 34, 32, 30, 29 and then reducing by 1 point for each position).

Who are the Committee Members?

How can I enter local races?

It’s not all about running…

Social events

Our biggest and most popular event is the Annual Presentation Dinner in October or November. Various awards are presented including most improved runner of the year.

We hold a pre-London Marathon pasta party, quiz night, skittle evening, scenic weekend walks and social runs. Link To Social Page

What are Home Runs?

A home run is a gentle, social run from a member’s home or other suitable local venue (such as pub or forest car park). Routes are normally 6 miles, with a shorter option available, and a leader and sweeper will be needed. The run is followed by refreshments organised by the host (usually sandwiches, cakes and squash) for which members pay £2. These could be organised instead of a Monday or Thursday session, or at a weekend. In the past we have had a home run every month between May to September and they are a great way for members to socialise, run and explore a different running area.
