Dear Sports Editor

'The Salisbury 5-4-3-2-1 takes place over or past 5 rivers, 4 hills, 3 country estates, 2 castles and 1 cathedral It is a very scenic, multi-terrain, sociable trail run or walk organised by the Fire Service. Starting and finishing at Salisbury Fire Station, competitors also have a choice of distances from a 5K walk to 42K marathon. Maps in hand, five Romsey Roadrunners took part this year, two in the marathon, two in the 20K run and one man and his dog in the 30K walk. It is a great event for training and club members tend to stick together. Tony Peelo (pictured) and Matt Hurst finished the marathon, measured by most to be almost 28 miles, in 4 hours 39 mins whilst Heidi Williams and Liz Slade took 2 hours 14 mins to complete the 20K run which, again, turned out to be longer at 21.7K. Chris Lane and Bouncer, undertook the 30K walk, jogging some of the way and returning in time to present Tony and Matt with a huge ice cream when they completed the marathon. The hospitality was excellent with lots of very welcome drinks, cakes and jelly babies along the route and more refreshments along with sports massages available afterwards.

The following evening, club members were treated to another home run, hosted by Julia, Amed and Emily Abab. Julia arranged three different off-road runs from her home in the New Forest, of 4, 5 and 7 miles. This was followed by a superb buffet consisting of many different salads, breads and vegetable dishes as well as a variety of lovely cakes to finish. Many thanks to Julia, Amed and Emily for their superb hospitality and wonderful homemade feast.

If this has whet your appetite to take up running or you're an experienced runner looking to join a club, please visit www.romseyroadrunners.co.uk for more information about Romsey Road Runners. New members are always welcome.'

Many thanks.

Liz Slade
