Dear Sports Editor
'Last weekend, Anna Duignan of Romsey Road Runners completed her first Half Marathon, part of the Great Scottish Run held in Glasgow city centre. Anna was hoping to finish inside 2 hours 40 minutes and in the event, exceeded her expectations by completing the course in a superb 2 hours 8 minutes 27 seconds, a time which she described as being 'dead chuffed' with! Anna's late husband, Tommy, came from Glasgow and she, her daughter Marie and other family members have supported the 10K and Half Marathon events, raising funds for Cancer Research UK, ever since.
The 14th annual race enticingly named 'The Beast' also took place last weekend up, down and along the beautiful Dorset coast, starting and finishing near Corfe Castle. Several Romsey Road Runners took part with Tamantha Ryan (1:59:07), Angie Stuckey (2:01:21), Julia Abab (2:15:35) and Derek Kelly (2:21:50) achieving personal best times for this undulating, twelve and a quarter mile event. Tamantha finished more than ten minutes faster than last year; Julia and Derek were particularly delighted after enduring more than their fair share of injuries over the last few months. David Page finished in a very commendable 2:02:43 and Steve Davies, who was taking part for the first time, in 2:10:57. Ruth Page (2:32:02) and Wendy Couper (2:39:12) both completed the event just one minute slower than the previous time they ran it. Conditions were very warm at the start but runners encountered a nice breeze as they neared the coast. All enjoyed the experience and were given a very bright orange T-shirt to remember the event!
If this has enticed you to take up running or you're an experienced runner looking to join or rejoin a club, please visit www.romseyroadrunners.co.uk for more information about Romsey Road Runners. New members are always welcome.'
Many thanks.
