Dear Sports Editor
'Romsey Road Runners' Wendy Couper, Chris Lane and Matt Hurst
took part in the AXLR8 Triathlon at Wellington College, Crowthorne in Berkshire
over the weekend, each completing a 200m swim, 17km cycle and 5km run; the
latter two tasks in difficult conditions. Wendy was very pleased to finish
in 77:26, just 20 seconds outside her time last year and not far behind the
other two members who are her junior by several years. Matt finished in 70:22
and Chris in 70:55; both would have been under 70 minutes had they not stopped
for a chat during the swim! All agreed though, this was a thoroughly enjoyable,
well organised event where, on the day, competitors got just as wet on the
cycle and run as they did in the pool!
In the Lordshill 10K Road Race, continuous rain and very big puddles didn't dampen the spirits of members who took part in this popular race, organised by Lordshill Runners. Official results weren't available at the time of writing but Charlotte Maslen knocked almost five minutes of her previous personal best time and Michelle Shaw also did a PB of 60:04. Iain Cross came home in 36:18, Paul Cross in 48:43 and Irisha Cross in a little over 50 minutes.
The sixth race of this year's summer RR10 Cross Country Series took place at Blackfield and Romsey Road Runners were very well represented with 26 members taking part. Iain Cross was first home in 7th place out of 181 men and Jane Field was first lady home in 13th out of 99, her best position so far this year. Other results: Men: David Barrett 15, Nick Berryman 48, Chris Brown 59, Will Stanley 60, Paul Cutbill 100, David Page 108, Paul Bradley 124, Andrew Archibald 128, Steve Davies 130, Paul Cross 140, Steve Edwards 142, Greg Roulston 154, Derek Kelly 170.
