Dear Sports Editor
'The Totton Triathlon meant an early start for Romsey Road Runners' Chris Lane and Matt Hurst who started their 400m swim at 6.30am. This was followed by a 15 mile bike ride and a four and a half mile run. Matt, who had an excellent bike ride but suffered a leg injury during the ran, finished in 1hr 41min while Chris was just behind in 1hr 45min.
In the Winchester 5K, Heidi Williams and brothers Iain and Paul Cross all finished in good times, especially Paul in a personal best 21:33. Iain was first home in 17:26 and Heidi finished in 22:23.
During the summer months, Romsey Road Runners enjoy 'home runs' involving a run followed by refreshments. Chris and Anita Lane have hosted a home run for many years, usually in place of a training session. This year, however, Chris thought it would make a change to have a Sunday morning run followed by brunch. Members and Chris's dog, Bouncer, enjoyed a 9.6 mile run, mainly through Ampfield Wood. Meanwhile, Anita was busy preparing and cooking a full English breakfast and more at their home in Romsey. After the run, all present tucked in and those who were introduced to the art of dipping strawberries and marsh mallows under a chocolate foundation, are now experts at it! Many thanks to Chris and Anita for such a wonderful feast!
Over the last few weeks, the 5K Race for Life has been taking place all over the country in aid of Cancer Research UK and some Romsey ladies have been helping the cause. Gill Callus ran in Bath; Anna Duignan in Bournemouth; Carol Brunner and Michelle Shaw in Salisbury and Jane Field, Heidi Williams, Sarah Thorn and Ruth Page in the largest race (10,000 participants) on Southampton Common. Jane finished in a fine 4th place in a time of 20:26 and Heidi was 12th in 22:29.
The Race for Life is a great way to start a running career and for anyone now hooked, please visit www.romseyroadrunners.co.uk for more information about Romsey Road Runners. New members are always welcome.'
Many thanks.
