'Short runs and celebrations have been in abundance at Romsey Road Runners recently. Sarah Thorn and Michelle Shaw ran in the joyful yet always emotional Southampton Race for Life and both finished the 5K event in around 26 minutes; excellent times given the crowded start. Conditions were perfect after several very hot race days in recent years.
Paul and Irisha Cross competed in the reasonably flat Winchester 5K and finished in 21:20 and 22:50 respectively. The race starts and ends at King Alfred's Statue and is run around the city centre.
In the eighth race of the RR10 Cross Country summer series, it was Romsey's turn to marshal the event with Wessex Road Runners. It was good to see so many members take the time to come and help, especially those who haven't been racing this season.
It has been a busy summer for 'big' birthdays, three of which fell within a week. By way of celebration, Paul and Kitty Bradley kindly hosted the first 'home run' of the year with Lynne Whitaker, Peter and Liz Slade assisting with the catering. Paul worked out two routes of just under 4 miles and just under 6 miles from his house around the Cupernham area of the town. It was then back for welcome drinks and a BBQ in the garden.
