Over the summer the Club 5Km time trial was held with many taking part in the sessions and showing great improvements. The final event was held and congratulations go to Paul Cross for first place and Irisha Cross and Charlotte Maslen for joint second. The full results can be found here.

Ever wondered how far you've actually gone on those cold and wet training runs that you try to squeeze in between Club nights? If you don't have a GPS device then try this web site that allows you first to pop in your postcode and then click point to point of where you run and adds up the distance. The site can be found here and many thanks for Tony Peelo for digging this out.

HOT NEWS!! Ray Masters is organising a walk starting and finishing at Tyneham this weekend. For full details just click here.

The days are colder and the courses are muddier...so it can only mean the new season of CC6 events. These are similar to the RR10 series and great fun held on Sunday mornings. Full details can be found by pressing the CC6/XC link.

The popular race amongst Romsey Road Runners took place this weekend just gone, that being the Clarendon Half and Full Marathon. To celebrate its 10th year it was run in reverse with the course being an interesting one. I could print how Julia described it when she crossed the finish line but alas the censorship squad would have to move in! Full write up and results from Liz can be found here.

Results in for the Hursley 10km cross country race and the Littledown 5 Mile race can be found here.

Apologies for the delay, but the new Autumn training schedule is now up on the site just in case you don't have your Relay to hand and are desperate not to miss that Cemetery Hill session!

RR10 - IBM Hursley

Wednesday the 15th of August saw the final RR10 event held at IBM Hursley. This was the culmination of 10 races held over the summer(?) months. A massive well done to every single Romsey Road Runner member who took part and represented the Club. Final results of everybody's placing's can be found here, and the official results web page showing all Club placing's can be found here.

Now we can look forward to the introduction of the CC6 during the winter months.

A full run down of results for this has also kindly been compiled by Liz and can be found here.

Below a team photograph of all those who did the final race.

Liz Slade's latest round-up of results and news can be found here.

A few members took part in the Salisbury 5-4-3-2-1 event. Special mention should go to this event as it is part of the series run by the Salisbury Fire Station. They run over the year events consisting of 8m XC, 10km, 10m, 13m and of course the 5-4-3-2-1 which allows runners (and walkers) to choose a selection of distances from 10km right up to the marathon. I have found these events to be very friendly and just the right size to remain "personal" and big enough to still have runners around you and not left feeling deserted. I would recommend anyone looking for a different venue to have a go at these. The official Salisbury Fire Station web site can be found here.

Below is a snap shot of Tony Peelo giving his all running the marathon category!

Annual Presentation Dinner 2007

Full details now published and can be found on the social link as well as a menu that can be printed off to be given to Julia or Gill, found here.

There have now been four sessions on Club nights for times taken for the 5km Time Trial. Well done to those who have taken part and a full listing of all times and positions to date can be found here.

Special mention should go to Paul and Irisha Cross who have both shown excellent improvements on their original times!

It is well documented that cross-training can improve your running. One form is circuit training which has the benefit of working all different muscle groups. RRR holds regular circuit training every Friday evening at Romsey School. The cost is £3 and it starts at 6.45pm until 8.00pm, with Coach Mike Elliot.

Below are a few pictures of our intrepid members going through their exercises.

Feel free to come down one Friday evening and give it a go!!

A full range of pictures can be found here

Nick Berryman recently enjoyed his hols' on the Costa Blanca and took the opportunity to book a running holiday. He entered two races through local towns as well as some coaching.

The Company is called Running Holidays, and if anybody is interested their web site can be found here.

Thanks to all those who came and sampled the delights of Cadland Estate at the recent RR10 race held in Blackfield. I'm sure a few thought they had gone past the event as that A326 seems to go on for ever, but all managed to find it.

Results can be found the RR10/Pen page, and we also have some pictures of that final straight. Just click on the photos button and use the drop down menu.

Don't forget the next one is going to be at the Manor Farm Country Park on the 4th July starting at 7.30pm.

A great turnout at the recent RR10 at Deer Leap Enclosure in Ashurst. The course was posted at four and a half miles long with there being a few gradual hills to contend with.

However with the recent rain we have been having some must have been wondering that this should have been classed as a CC6 run instead.

Our thanks goes to Paul Cutbill and Heidi Williams who were not able to run due to illness but helped with the photographs and position recording.Well done to all and positions can be found here.

Session

Summer is with us now and Romsey Road Runners are back to their usual routine of Monday evenings Braishfield routes and Thursday evenings at Mountbatten track.

At Braishfield all three routes have now been run in various weathers and the first 5km time trial bought the sun out to shine on us, which made the water supplied at the end welcome by all. The 5km time trial will be run monthly until September when runners compete against the handicapper for the shield. I feel that the job of handicapper has been getting harder every year and I anticipate a tough time this year. To date nobody has won the trophy more than once but this could be the year for a past winner, bribes not accepted!

Track sessions are well under way with differing distances and types of sessions, some easier to explain and do than others. I have been very pleased with the numbers and the enthusiasm that these sessions have been greeted with, by older and newer members alike. As promised, sessions have been run individually, in pairs and in the occasional threesome. For any new members we meet at the grass track, which is in the middle of the field behind the school buildings, changing/toilets are in the corridor along from the sports hall, if you require directions please ask.

Pete Good will host the first home run on 11th June at Broughton Cricket Pavilion. Pete normally provides two routes for all abilities with marshals and markers, a longer route of about 6 miles and shorter version of approx 4 miles. We are then spoilt with refreshments to replenish us from our efforts. Each runner pays £2 to thank the host for their efforts.

Chris Lane is hosting the next home run on Sunday 15th July, followed by Julia and Amed on Monday 13th August.

I would like to thank everybody for participating in the training sessions, which are enjoyable and fun for me. I am impressed by the number of newer runners who are out racing mid-week and at weekends and I am pleased to be back, hopefully improving my, running and racing with you all.

Keep running!

A word from our session leaders Jane Field and Paul Bradley........

I write this in the hope that the sun will soon be shining and Spring will be with us, although we have luckily had very few wet club nights and let's hope that continues. The training sessions will change with the new season in April and the Spring schedule can be found here.

From early April, Monday evenings will see us running out to Braishfield to complete kilometer efforts and the monthly 5km effort time trial around the scenic lanes, past three pubs, with only water to help us on our way.

As in previous years we will start track training on Thursdays, so from Thursday 19th April we will move our Thursday venue to Mountbatten School, Whitenap, Romsey. There will be a number of different sessions planned ranging from 150m up to 1 mile intervals. These may be run solo, in pairs or the occasional threesome. We meet at the grass track, which is in the middle of the field behind the scholl buildings, with changing/toilets in the corridor along from the sports hall. If you are a new member and require directions please ask.

Home runs usually start in May and we are hoping to continue these sociable, enjoyable fun runs away from our normal running routes. To new members a home run is basically a gentle run from a members home or other suitable local venue (such as a pub or forest car park), followed by refreshments organised by the host (sandwiches, cakes and squash). If there is anybody willing to host a home run please contact any committee member or myself.

I would like to thanks everybody for participating in the training sessions. It has been an enjoyable first season for me, despite personally having to miss more running sessions due to illness than ever since I started running (and that's quite a long time now!). I am looking forward to a satisfying Spring season of training and racing for us all.

Members

Paul Cross

Previous running experience is limited (just like we all were at one time or another). Paul has completed the Boscombe 5K and the Poole 5K earlier this year. He has already started running in the RR10 series. His goals are to get fit and keep fit. Plus "one day to beat my brother in a race". Watch this space.

Irisha Cross

Paul's wife. Also has limited previous running experience. Two years ago took part in the Race For Life. More recently has taken part in three races: Southampton 5K in February, Poole 5K in March, Totton 10K in April. Irisha is also a member of the David Lloyd Club.

Sarah Thorn

Says that she has always been into fitness, mainly at the gym and also rowing, (not a sport for wimps) which Sarah gave up a couple of seasons ago. Her goals are fitness and getting rid of the extra handles! Sarah has set herself a challenge to have her fittest year ever and hopes to get a place in the London Marathon in 2008.

Kerry Williams

"Resumed" running 4 years ago to run the Race For Life. Since then she has completed 4 half marathons and some 10Ks. Kerry's goals are to run the New Forest Marathon in Sept 2007 and to improve her pace for other distances.

Anna Johnson

Wants to keep fit and improve speed & distance. Familiar goals here. Earlier this year Anna took part in the Winchester 10k and Two Saints 10K .

A big welcome to our newest recruits and I hope they achieve their goals.
