Dear Sports Editor
'The RR10 series of cross-country races, organised by running clubs in south-west
Hampshire for their members, reached its climax last week when the final race
of the season took place in the beautiful surroundings of IBM, Hursley. Romsey
Road Runners were well represented once again but disappointed to find that
other clubs were too, as this affected their final positions. Members were
hoping to finish with a lower number than a previous run in order to gain
a better position overall. Nevertheless, most were pleased with their performance
and had it not been for many 'first-timers' the results would have been much
as expected or better. Results: Ladies; Jane Field 27, Penny Jennings 35,
Heidi Williams 47, Julia Abab 53, Mary Corbett 61, Liz Slade 66, Charlotte
Maslen 78, Ruth Page 86, Anna Duignan 92, Wendy Couper 101, Gill Callus 113.
Men; Chris Brown 49, David Page 124, Paul Cutbill 126, Andrew Archibald 133,
Paul Bradley 144, Steve Davies 148, Steve Edwards 155, Derek Kelly 174.
In the series overall, the ladies teams came 8th, 16th, 31st and 43rd with the men 12th, 30th and 42nd. In the individual event, a total of 273 ladies and 443 took part in at least one race. The more races completed, the higher the table runners climb, with the best six races counting towards the final position. Members completing at least six races finished the 2007 series as follows: Ladies: Jane Field 16, Penny Jennings 17, Tamantha Ryan 20, Heidi Williams 37, Julia Abab 41, Liz Slade 53, Charlotte Maslen 66, Wendy Couper 73, Anna Duignan 75, Gill Callus 90. Men: David Barrett =15, Nick Berryman 42, Chris Brown =44, David Page =110, Andrew Archibald 119, Paul Bradley 121, Steve Davies 127, Steve Edwards 139, Derek Kelly 153, David Nixon 155.
