It’s probably fair to say that this year’s Ropley 10K Road Race was run in somewhat damp and chilly conditions, on Sunday 27 May. The rain did little to dampen the spirits of a very strong turn-out nor did it deter the supporters – who’s encouragement willed the competitors on to very respectable times in the circumstances. Romsey Road Runners' were no exception with two members achieving personal best times and three ladies finishing in the top 20; Lynne Whitaker was the first Romsey runner home in 7th place out of 164 entrants in 43:04, Jane Field came 9th in 44:10 and Penny Jennings 16th in 45:56. Charlotte Maslen finished in a personal best time of 55:10 and Steve Davies, for the fourth time this year, broke his previous PB by 45 seconds, finishing in 47:33. Other Results: Gill Callus 66:12, Alistair Longworth 45:08, Paul Cutbill 49:07.

The fourth of the summer RR10 Cross Country Series saw a return to the Deerleap Enclosure in the New Forest; this time round a different but equally scenic course. Jane Field (18), Penny Jennings (20) and Tamantha Ryan (25) ensured Romsey Road Runners ladies 'A' team finished 6th with the 'B' team, Julia Abab (32), Carol Brunner (46) and Liz Slade (50) finishing 14th. Mary Adams (69), Anna Duignan (80) and Wendy Couper (84) made sure a 'C' team was also fielded, finishing in 27th. The men's teams finished 14th and 25th. Other individual results: Ladies; Kate Clements (94), Gill Callus (96). Men; David Barrett (17), Jim Wright (54), Chris Brown (69), Matt Hurst (87), Tony Peelo (117), Alistair Longworth (121), David Page (124), Paul Bradley (130), Andrew Archibald (134), Steve Davies (137), Steve Edwards (150), Greg Roulston (158), David Nixon (183).'
