'It has been another busy and successful week for Romsey Road Runners with
members completing in a variety of races. Unbroken sunshine and temperatures
in the early twenties greeted three club members as they arrived at Gang Warily
Playing Fields in Blackfield last Sunday for the Solent Half Marathon. They
all finished the fairly level course in excellent times: Steve Reed first
home in 1:35:17, Alistair Longworth in a personal best time for the course
in 1:37:38 and Paul Bradley in 1:41:06.
Lynne Whitaker excelled in the South West Veterans 10K Road Championships
held at Portland in Dorset. She was 1st lady V50 finishing in a time of 42:10,
just missing her personal best at this distance.
Neil Payne ran in the Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon in central London
along with approximately 12,500 other runners. He said the support along the
route was amazing and was delighted to sneak home in just under two hours,
finishing in a personal best time of 1:59 55.
Tamatha Ryan, Wendy George and Steve Edwards took things more gently last
Sunday when they took part in the Amesbury Amble 30K; a low-key, friendly
event with drinks and sweets every 5K along the route.
The Hampshire Cross Country League got underway at Farley Mount, Winchester
last Saturday. The league consists of five races in Hampshire and surrounding
counties. Results: Ladies: Mary Corbett 90th, Wendy Couper 130th. Men; Nick
Berryman 129th, Jim Wright 167th.
