'Hampshire Cross Country League’s second fixture of the series took place at Goodwood on Saturday 8th November with four Romsey Road Runners members braving the inclement weather. Heavy rain and strong winds produced tough conditions – just right for cross country running! Nick Berryman and Nick Saunders completed the men’s course (approximately 10km) in 36:06 and 38:18 respectively, whilst Mary Corbett completed the women’s course (approximately 6km) in 28:48 and Wendy Couper in 35:19. The next fixture of the competition is set for 6th December at Overton.

Sunday was a busy day for the club with six members competing in the Gosport Half Marathon. A new course was set this year with views across the Solent and ran past HMS Daedalus twice. The flat course was excellent for setting personal best times and three Romsey Road Runners achieved this. Nick Berryman was first club member home in 1:25:13, beating his previous personal best by 4 minutes! Jane Field also achieved a PB with 1:36:15 and was closely followed by Tamathan Ryan in 1:40:50, another PB. Also competing were Janet Eager in 1:42:30, Chris Hearn in 1:42:56 and Hazel Smith in 2:01:40, her second half marathon this month.

Three Romsey Road Runners also competed at the Puma Hell Runner Hell Down South at Longmoor Camp. This is a challenging 10 -12 mile off-road run which includes the infamous Hills of Hell and Bog of Doom! Mark Adams completed the course in 1:27:11 and Nick Saunders took part with Team Smurf, complete with blue body pain, who came home in 1:48:44.
