Romsey Road Runner’s Ali Longworth is having a fantastic season with yet another personal best achieved two weeks ago. Longworth, who is also the club’s webmaster, competed in the Vale of Pewsey Half Marathon at the end of August completing the undulating course in 1 hour 30:38. The cool conditions and beautiful scenery attracted nearly 300 runners to the event in the heart of the Wiltshire countryside, and Longworth finished in a deserved 47th place overall.

Perhaps looking for something more challenging, Ali was also to be found along with 8 other members of the club at the aptly named ‘The Beast’ Half Marathon which took place last weekend. The event, organised by Poole Athletics Club, reached its Sweet Sixteenth this year with over 500 participants taking part. Steve Reed was first home for the club in 1 hour 43:56 closely followed by Jim Wright, 1.46:22, and Ali Longworth, 1.53:10. Tamatha Ryan finished just under the 2 hour mark in a time of 1.59:03, with Jane Carter shortly after in 2.01.42 and Janet Eager achieving a course personal best of 2.04.18. Paul Cutbill finished in 2.14.:41 with Wendy George, 2.22:57, and Hazel Smith, 2.35:38, completing Romsey’s line up.

Also competing over the weekend were Lynne Whittaker who came 2nd V45 at the Overton 5 in a time of 33:02, and Nick Berryman who completed the Bristol Half Marathon in 1 hour 26:49 placing him 302nd in the field of 16,000 runners.
