No less than five personal best times were set by Romsey Road Runners at Sunday’s Victory 5 in Portsmouth. Changed from its usual December date, the flat and fast 5 mile course attracted over 600 runners. Jimmy Hunt and Ali Longworth set their best times for the distance in 29:33 and 31:23 respectively, whilst Steve Reed was third man home for the club in 33:20. Lynne Whitaker won first V50 female in her best time of 32:27, with Lynda Brown and Hannah White also setting personal bests of 39:09 and 39:15, and Liz Slade achieving 39:50. Hunt and Whittaker’s fast times have ruled them out of the upcoming CC6 cross country league.

Elsewhere, three of Romsey’s runners took on the Studland Stampede – a challenging 12km course run entirely on sand and through the dunes. Tamatha Ryan completed the race in just under 1 hour 2 minutes placing her 8th lady overall, with David and Ruth Page also competing, finishing in 1 hour 10 and 1 hour 22 respectively. Also enjoying the beautiful Dorset scenery, Wendy Couper competed in the Dorset Demon 10 – a 10 mile off road run throughout Purbeck. Couper finished in 2 hours 7 minutes.
