Romsey Road Runners turned out in force to support the Hursley 10k on Sunday. Now in its third year, the established local race attracted over 500 runners to tackle the off-road course. The autumn sunshine made for a warm start but the runners were soon under the cover of trees as the course took them on a tour of Ampfield Wood. Finishing along the tree-lined avenue of the Monarchs Way, it was encouraging to hear the commentator well before the finish line came into site. Jimmy Hunt set another personal best completing the course in 37:44 and finishing in 3rd place – his best race finish so far. Jane Carter finished 5th lady in 47 minutes with Paul Cutbill finishing a minute later. Penny Jennings also came in under the 5-minute km pace with a time of 49:25. A further 6 Romsey Road Runners completed the course under the hour including Katie Boyman, Hannah White, Liz Slade, Mark Adams, Charlotte Maslen and Wendy Couper.

Also in the sunshine, Romsey had a presence at the New Forest Half and Full Marathons. Running in her first half marathon, Amanda Hull had a great run completing the course in 1 hour 34, placing her 14th lady, with Jackie Hearn and New Awty finishing in excellent times of 1 hour 52 and 1 hour 59 respectively. Clive Hearn took on the full marathon course achieving a time of 4:01:30.

Celebrating its 25th anniversary, the Butser Hill Challenge in Petersfield was also run on Sunday. Club runners Lesley and Keith Stone took part in the 4.5 mile fell run with fond memories of having competed in the event’s debut year in 1984!
