Further afield, Steve Reed and Janet Burnage ran the Solent half marathon on Sunday. Capped at 500 entries, this is a well organised event whose course winds through the New Forest near Exbury and along the Solent shore at Lepe. Reed, who made his third appearance at this event, was pleased with his time of 1:33:19, putting him 41st senior male, whilst Burnage finished in 1:44:16 achieving 4th place V50 female.
Lynne Whitaker travelled to Portland to compete in the British Masters Athletics Federation meeting. The ten mile road race championship was run in a scenic loop down to the lighthouse at Portland Bill, with a less-scenic uphill return to contend with. Whitaker completed the race in 1:09:58, placing her 2nd V50 female and 7th lady overall.
Finally, Clive Hearn completed his triple challenge in Leicester this weekend, running in his third marathon in as many weeks. This city race was by far the flattest course of the three he has undertaken, enabling him to pip his two previous week’s results with a time of 3 hours 32:22.
