Whittaker wins again!
For the second year running, Lynne Whittaker has triumphed at the Great South Run, winning her age category. Romsey Road Runner Whittaker, was one of 8 club runners taking part in the 10 mile event which this year held 21,000 competitors. Whittaker took on the flat and fast course finishing in 1:08:42 earning her first place lady in the V50 age group. Amanda Hull finished seconds earlier in 1:08:28, earning 10th place female overall and 7th in the senior ladies category. Paul Willis thoroughly enjoyed racing in the sunny autumnal conditions finishing in 1:12:45, as did Katie Boyman (1:23:49), Liz Slade (1:26:20), Sarah Thorn (1:33:42), Michelle Hughes (1:43:41) and Lindsey Durnford (1:43:58).
At the other extreme, The Stickler also took place on Sunday capturing the interest of another 7 of Romsey’s competitors. This 10 mile course challenges the runners to tackle 3 peaks in Dorset, climbing to 800 ft in places. Tamatha Ryan was first home for the club in 1:32:51, whilst Steve Davies was next in with a PB for the course in 1:38:41. David Page finished in a time of 1:49:30 and Wendy Couper in 1:57:19. Just ticking over the 2 hour mark, Ruth Page finished in 2:01:16 with Derek Kelly hot on her heels in 2:02:08, whilst Gill Callus was home in 2:11:50.
Elsewhere, Alistair Longworth took part in the Stroud Half
Marathon, gaining a personal best for the course in 1:28:27 and Matt Hammerton
competed in the Sandy Balls Duathlon – a 6km run, 20km cycle and 5km
run to finish, completing in a total time of 1:16:39 and finishing 9th overall.
