Romsey Road Runners celebrated another year of talent and achievement with a barn dance on Friday night. The annual awards evening was well supported by the club with 75 members and partners enjoying a hog roast and a do-si-do to celebrate with the award winners.
Nick Berryman swept the board winning the Men’s Cross-Country, the Men’s Pentathlon and Romsey Road Runner of the Year as voted for by members of the club. Berryman, who is the Fixtures Secretary and puts a great deal into the club has also notably improved his running over the year coming back from various injuries to continue to set faster times and personal bests. The Sally Silence award for Performance received several worthy nominees for marked improvement over the year; however the clear winner was Ali Longworth for his tremendous and continual improvement and performance across all race distances and terrains. Jeremy Hartley was awarded the Chairman’s Award for services to the club as he stands down from the position of Race Director for the club’s annual Braishfield Beer Race. Other award winners included Wendy Couper (Ladies Cross-Country), Matt Hammerton (Men’s RR10), Amanda Hull (Ladies RR10) and Jane Carter (Ladies Pentathlon).
Romsey’s runners also braved the hideous wintery conditions
on Sunday morning to compete in the Lordshill 10 mile race. Normally a very
fast and furious race, the weather played havoc with the runners’ times.
Despite this, Ali Longworth managed to set yet another personal best and was
first home for the club finishing in 67:17, Lynne Whitaker was also on form
finishing 2nd lady V45 in 69:18 with Amanda Hull close behind in 69:44.
