Despite the strong winds and threat of rain, nine Romsey Road Runners competed at the Gosport Half Marathon on Sunday. The popular race, which last year topped 1500 participants, again saw a large field of over 1200 runners lining up. The course, now in its second year as a revised route, was tweaked again to ensure a smoother, less congested start and is earning a reputation for having good PB potential. A light shower during the early stages of the race created a rainbow and the thought of a pot of gold for the runners to chase, whilst the high winds were at least in favour for the last 3 miles back along the sea front.
Alistair Longworth and Christopher Brown both put in excellent
performances, with Brown achieving a personal best of 1:29:06 for the distance
and Longworth just ahead in 1:28:44. Amanda Hull also had a great run finishing
in 1:31:30 with Jane Carter shortly after in 1:41:17. Tony Peelo was next
to finish for the club in 1:45:18, just 10 seconds ahead of Janet Burnage,
whilst Heidi Williams completed the race in 1:53:01. Liz Slade and Ned Awty
made up the nine, finishing in 2:05:02 and 2:38:11 respectively.
