The latest round of the CC6 Cross Country League
took on a festive feel when it was held on Sunday at Fritham Inclosure. Romsey
Road Runners fielded 17 competitors with Jane Carter successfully finishing
first in her age group and 5th overall, whilst Nick Berryman was first man
home for the club finishing 6th overall. Several runners saw a great improvement
in their placing compared to the previous fixture including Tony Peelo, David
Page and Derek Kelly, Diane Cross, Ruth Page and Wendy Couper. Ruth Smith,
running in her debut CC6, achieved 45th place. Romsey’s ladies team
is currently 3rd with the men’s team lying in joint 7th, and a combined
club position of 6th overall in the league.
Also competing at the weekend, Matt Hammerton took on the Turkey Trot half
marathon in Keyworth near Nottingham, an undulating road race through the
South Nottinghamshire Wolds. Hammerton finished in a superb 1 hour 17 minutes
achieving 9th position. Closer to home, Lesley and Keith Stone joined 500
other santas in Portsmouth to run the 5km Santa Dash in aid of the RNLI finishing
together in 29 minutes.
