Penny Wins Again!
Following up on her success as part of the winning Romsey Road Runners ladies team at Exbury 10k race, Penny Jennings won her age category in the Marwell 10k. It was a scenic but rather undulating course that started off with a lap round the zoological park, passing the rhinos and meerkats, before setting off down (although it felt like a permanent up) the country lanes, though Owslebury and back to Marwell for a short but steep uphill finish.
It was near perfect conditions for the three Romsey Road Runners and the 700 plus others that entered this well marshalled and popular local race organised by the Eastleigh Running Club. It is not a course suited for fast times but they all ran well with Penny clocking 47:38 to win her category with Paul Bradley (46:29) and Larry Edwards (62:17) both running well.
In addition to a great run in beautiful spring weather the competitors had free entry to the park and the opportunity to admire the animals. Although for once it was the other way round with the animal watching the people earlier in the day as the racers ran past their enclosures!
