Training We meet two evenings a week. We meet at 6:20pm to stretch and prepare for the evening run. It is also a time to chat with each other and to introduce new members. THE RUN STARTS AT 06:30PM What can you expect on the night training runs? Fartleks and interval training: Our session leader provides a structured training schedule to improve your speed, stamina and strength. These generally include five or six efforts totaling approximately four to six miles. Steady pace: These groups are determined casually on the evening depending on how far, how fast, and how much effort you want to put into your run. The runs are normally four to six miles at an eight to ten minutes per mile pace. What to wear: Anything that takes your fancy, although you are requested to wear a reflective vest during the winter months for your own safety. Please also take a moment to run through the safety guidelines for Club training sessions by clicking on the link below. Safety Guidelines for Club Training Sessions

These are when members of the club arrange a short(ish) run from their home address during the summer months, with everyone welcome to come back to their abode for some nosh afterwards for a token fee of £2. These sessions are extremely enjoyable and gives everyone a chance to run some new courses and a great way to relax and socialise. These events are great fun and well worth trying out with a 4.5 - 6 mile off-road run followed by some socialising afterwards. Car sharing from Romsey Rapids is always an idea too. This event is first held around the start of the track sessions, whereby you give a slightly undulating course of 5km around Braishfield your best shot! Then hopefully after doing a few track sessions at Mountbatten School the event is ran again but with all runners given a handicap starting time depending on their original time.
I know it was a while ago, but for anybody who wanted to see their placing's and compare how they ran the course over the last few years, just click on the links below. The annual ten by one-mile relay will take place on Wednesday 30th June 2010, at the Southampton Sports Centre at 7.00pm. We should be able to field at least two and probably three teams. Please sign up at a Monday club night or send an email to Nick Berryman here. These are held on Friday nights at Romsey School from 6.45pm - 8.00pm. Cost is £3.00 with coach Mark Adams. This is a great opportunity to do some cross training which can really help your running! |
