Results Round Up – 10/07/14

Tam Ryan completed the South Downs Marathon on Saturday 21 June. This is becoming a popular trail event and offers some challenging inclines for runners, including a start up Butser Hill. The longer views are rewarding and the scenery along the route pleasant. Despite taking a wrong turn along the way, making the trail longer than it need to be and the added scorching sunshine, Tam still managed a time of 3:43:17 finishing as 2nd lady and 15th overall out of field 412 runners.

Lynda Brown did the South Downs Half Marathon, which turned out to be just under 15 miles by the end, after organisers extended the route to avoid another event. Lynda’s time was 2:22:51 finishing as 15th lady and 84th out of 280.

There was a good turn out of runners to the annual Mile of Miles relay event on 2nd July, hosted by Southampton Athletics Club. The relay event took place on Southampton’s athletics track, the perfect setting for each runner to complete a metric mile (4x400m). Romsey A finished in 9th position this year, out of a total of 31 teams and Romsey B in 26th position. The top ten teams were:

1 Southampton AC A 52:44
2 Hardley Runners A 54:52
3 New Forest A 55:16
4 Eastleigh RC A 56:34
5 Lordshill B 57:43
6 Hedge End A 57:56
7 Totton A 58:44
8 Southampton AC B 59:32
9 Romsey RR A 60:36
10 Eastleigh RC B 61:34

In the seventh RR10 race at Marwell Zoo on the 9th July, Romsey men fielded two teams, finishing 6th and 22nd. The women fielded three teams finishing 6th, 17th and 34th. In the overall standings Romsey A Men are in 6th place (but only one point off 4th) while Romsey A Women lie 10th.
